WGF Grain Sorghum was developed just for wildlife. WGF stands for Wild Game Food. This grain sorghum grows 3 to 5 feet tall and produces an abundance of grain upon maturity. The sturdy stalks provide excellent cover for wildlife throughout the year. The grain will shatter slowly from the stalk throughout the Fall and Winter to provide upland game & song birds with a constant food source. The hard-shelled grain is mold and rot resistant.
Deer will browse on the seed heads once they are mature and turkey, quail, pheasant, and doves will devour the seeds as they shatter from the stalk. Plant WGM grain sorghum 10 to 15 pounds per acre by broadcasting on a well prepared seed bed, covering 1/2 inch. Feritilize and lime according to soil test.
To boost seed production, apply 100 lbs. per acre of Nitrogen to the crop when seedlings are about knee high. WGF grain sorghum is a drought tolerant grain sorghum that is well suited for and well-drained site.
