Chufa Price per lb.

Price:  $2.00

Chufa is considered by many to be the best planting there is for turkeys. This sedge-like bunch grass produces dozens of underground tubers that are relished by turkeys. The underground nuts are about the size of peanuts and once mature turkeys will scratch them out of the ground from late summer through the following spring. Chufas will grow in most soil types. Although it is easier for turkeys to get to them when planted in sandy to laomy soil. If growing chufas in a clay soil, be sure to lightly disk through the mature stand in the fall of the year. This will aid the turkeys in feeding on the tubers.

Chufa need a pH of 5.5 to 7.0 and the seeding rate is 30 pounds per acre. Prepare a well-tilled seed bed and broadcast or drill, covering seeds 1 to 2 inches. Fertilize and lime according to soil test.
